Eric Chahi - Interview

May 28, 2020

Adrian loves Another World. Hell, all of us (except Rob, grrrr) do! And he's shown that persistence pays off. After months of harassment - I mean, er, nice messages - the legendary Eric Chahi finally agreed to a chat. Certainly one for all you Amiga aficionados!

Eugene Jarvis - Interview

Eugene Jarvis - Interview

May 14, 2020

Warning: this podcast contains strong language so probably best to listen when the little uns aren't about.

Yes, THAT Eugene Jarvis. He's kindly answered an email Q&A before but this time he's agreed to take on our Adrian in one of our most delightful podcasts to date. From Defender to Robotron, Stargate to Smash TV, his work continues to entertain us to this very day. And his current outfit Raw Thrills goes from strength to strength in the industry that we love the most, everything he touches seemingly turns to gold.

So enjoy the stories, enjoy the banter, and pay tribute to a true gaming legend.

The Nintendo Wii

The Nintendo Wii

May 7, 2020

So here is the last of our pre-coviddy lockdown backlog podcasts and it's quite apt that we discuss the console that really brought people together. Even your grandparents.

Nintendo struck gold with their motion-driven console, the Wii. But why was it so popular? We (wii?) discuss our favourite Wii moments as well as some of the console's key titles. We also question whether the thing is really retro at all and Adrian puts up a solid (sort of) defence of the Wii-U.

Weird Retro Gaming Merchandise

Weird Retro Gaming Merchandise

April 30, 2020

Don't worry, this one (and next week's pod) were recorded in a much simpler time. A time when people could hang out in the same room and smell rotting flesh, courtesy of Keith's REmake 2 candle!

Dylan invites the gang to discuss the weird and wacky merchandise available for us retro gaming lovers; Royal Mail's UK-dev gaming tribute and what weird AA merchandise could look like. And in the meantime we've teamed up with the amazing Seven Squared to bring you the official AA tee which you can check out here:

Mike Dailly (GTA, Lemmings) - Interview

Mike Dailly (GTA, Lemmings) - Interview

April 23, 2020

We did it! We finally got him! The GTA and Lemmings creator has been a friend of ours on social media for many years but he's an incredibly busy man. Our Adrian, ever the sniper (see what I did there), got in and grabbed Mike for an hour-long chat.

Lots of Lemmings, GTA and Amiga goodness among many, many other lovely retro gaming anecdotes.

Half-Life 2

Half-Life 2

April 16, 2020

Another remote podcast just to keep things ticking over! Adrian gets the boys to chat about the wondrous Half-Life 2, a game so good it's won more awards than I have appendages!

The game's development, critical acclaim, gameplay and plot line (complete with spoilers) all discussed in length. The gang also discuss Half-Life: Alyx and their hopes/wants for Half-Life 3 (yeah, we know we know).

So grab your crowbar and jump on in!

This week, Adrian has a lovely chat with Dr David Doak! David is mostly known for his work with the Rare team that created GoldenEye and Perfect Dark.

He talks to Adrian about how this opportunity came about, converting GoldenEye from a rail shooter to a first-person shooter, rubbing shoulders with the stars and creating Timesplitters among many, many other fantastic retro gaming stories.

The Coviddy Bunker

The Coviddy Bunker

April 2, 2020

In bad taste? Probably. But we're here to keep your spirits up as much as you do ours!

The AA boys are trapped in Dylan's underground bunker as the world falls prey to coronavirus, but what do they need to survive?

We've basically rehashed the Desert Island Diskettes episode (sorry Andy) with a multiplayer, coviddy, Norman Reedus twist. Our first ever 'remote' podcast went OK. And you've got Dylan doing an awful Keith impression to boot.

*The picture is from the excellent Jim'll Paint it - go check him out on Facebook, hopefully he doesn't tell us off for using it!

Retro devices and Mega SG review

Retro devices and Mega SG review

March 26, 2020

Dylan has a good cathart and talks about a bunch of other alternative retro consoles from his beloved Retro Trio to the Retron 5 and handheld options.

We try out and review the Mega SG in real time, and it’s revealed almost everyone was in a famous band in the early 2000’s. Don't believe me? Have a listen...
