Lost Games: Thrill Kill (PS1)
Saturday Jul 27, 2019
Saturday Jul 27, 2019
It's time for episode 2 of our "Lost Games" series (Warcraft Adventures being the first of course) and boy is it a humdinger. You'll need a strong (ish) stomach for Thrill Kill on the original PlayStation, a four player fighting game as gruesome as it is grotesque.
Adrian delights (maybe a bit too much) in telling the story of a game which our favourite publisher kiboshed for reasons that will soon become clear...
Quick Q&A with Thrill Kill graphic artist Robert Hunter

GoldenEye N64 - One of the Best FPS Titles Ever
Saturday Jul 20, 2019
Saturday Jul 20, 2019
Rare's finest moment? GoldenEye N64 truly brought multiplayer FPS action to the home console and how! Developed by a team who'd never embarked on this type of project before it's a mini miracle it turned out as good as it did. Or was it?
Our Rob is a massive fan (and also damn good at the game) so he literally bit off my finger/jumped at the chance to wax lyrical whilst giving us lots of lovely facts. So let's all jump in and no, you cannot choose to be Oddjob, we're deadly serious...

Consoles and Leaving a Legacy
Saturday Jul 13, 2019
Saturday Jul 13, 2019
Late last year we asked for podcast suggestions and this week's comes courtesy of listener and friend of the show Dan Driver. What kind of legacy do gaming consoles/microcomputers leave and which ones will really stand the test of time out of the current crop? Lacking any kind of structure but hopefully lots of listening pleasure.
The episode also marks the inception of the Legacy Bucket, which is totally our idea not to be stolen (I'm looking at you Waffling Taylors ;))

The PlayStation 2 (PS2)
Friday Jul 05, 2019
Friday Jul 05, 2019
The PlayStation 2 (PS2) came into our lives in 2000 and life has never been the same. The highest selling console of all time is arguably the most loved, but why?
The gang (including the return of AA's prodigal son...) celebrate the life of Sony's second console now that the closure of the last online servers means it is officially dead. But is it? Are you even listening to this podcast? What is the meaning of life? PS2?

The Origin Systems legend had a chat with our Adrian about the many, many games he has developed. Directing Ultima Online and being QA lead for the revolutionary BioForge are just two of his countless achievements. Named regularly as one of the most influential figures in the MMO scene there's not much this guy doesn't know. Was an honour to have him on the show. Enjoy.

The SEGA Master System
Saturday Jun 22, 2019
Saturday Jun 22, 2019
How amazing was the SEGA Master System?!
We've mentioned it in passing on many other podcasts but SEGA's first successful console has never gotten an AA outing, until now! We've pretty much done the Game Boy episode again but with a different console! Lots of stories, lots of facts, and a shout out to all babysitters who own(ed) Master Systems (you'll see what we mean).

The Nintendo Game Boy
Friday Jun 14, 2019
Friday Jun 14, 2019
We've set about resolving a lot of things this year at Arcade Attack and this one has been on the redemption list for quite a while... The world's most beloved handheld console (Nintendo Game Boy) has never featured on an AA podcast, until now! Adrian, Dylan and a long lost friend/former AA podcaster drink and get merry whilst telling tales of the fabled console. But beware, not all of them are happy...

Iain Lee - Interview - I'm a Celebrity & Radio Star - Gaming Chat
Saturday Jun 01, 2019
Saturday Jun 01, 2019
An instantly recognisable face for our UK-based listeners, maybe even our British listeners abroad, TV and radio celebrity Iain Lee is also a massive retro gaming fan! He spoke to our Adrian about his major gaming loves (namely the Saturn and the Dreamcast), what happened with his TV career, working with the likes of Ricky Gervais and Sacha Baron Cohen, his new home on talk radio and what he really thinks of his "co-stars" on I'm A Celebrity. He also has porn recommendations for cowards so this one is probably not safe for listening to when the kids are in the car...

BioForge
Thursday May 23, 2019
Thursday May 23, 2019
A lot is owed to Origin Systems's BioForge, a weird and wonderful tale of a man turned into a cyborg seemingly against his will. It pioneered a lot of techniques used in subsequent mid-90s console gaming and is well worthy of a look. Adrian tells us all, thankfully without beating us with our own limbs (you'll see what I mean...)

DOOM (id Software)
Saturday May 18, 2019
Saturday May 18, 2019
DISCLAIMER: In no way, shape or form does this podcast do the awesomeness that is DOOM any justice, but we love it, so we'll talk about it. To say it took the FPS genre to another level is an understatement, id's monster is adored by millions.
We discuss the synthesis of the original DOOM, what it meant to us and the controversies that followed it. We also take a quick look at all the titles up to DOOM Vfr. So grab your BFG and join us in hell...

Another World
Friday May 10, 2019
Friday May 10, 2019
Éric Chahi's masterpiece needs little introduction. Another World (or Out of This World in the US) is considered by many to be the first true cinematic gaming experience not relying solely on FMV. Adrian tells the gang all about the development's ups and downs as well as some of the key moments of the game itself. Dylan then offers his less-than-complimentary opinion on its sequel Heart of the Alien, whilst Rob finds himself constantly infuriated by alien slug death. There's something here for everyone!

Super Mario Bros. The Movie
Friday May 03, 2019
Friday May 03, 2019
Our chat about Street Fighter The Movie went down so well we thought we'd put ourselves through similar "torture" again for your listening pleasure. Rob had never seen Super Mario Bros. The Movie before last month, sixteen years of ignorant bliss, all down the drain... He goes through his findings whilst we all pile in to discuss what could have been a great homage to a great series of games but instead turned out to be a bit of a mess.

Video Game Remakes & Remasters - The Good, The Bad and The WTF??
Friday Apr 26, 2019
Friday Apr 26, 2019
Whether it's a glossy finish (remaster) or your favourite game built from the ground up (remake) it's safe to say that this process has extended the lives of many a retro franchise. The Resident Evil 2 remake has put remakes and remasters back into the spotlight. We have a good chat about our favourites and not-so-favourites whilst trying to work out whether they're a good thing or not. Cash cow or homage? Our opinions plus lots of your opinions from a tweet we released the other day makes for a very interesting/argumenty chat indeed.

Top Gun Games - Were They Really That Bad?
Friday Apr 19, 2019
Friday Apr 19, 2019
Errrrr, OK, Top Gun has hardly had its fair share of games that do amazing films justice but exactly how many bad games are we talking about? Moby Games has it at 11 and we try to go through as many as possible without vomiting (from motion sickness of course...) but it's really all just a ruse to play some Kenny Loggins.

A few years ago I (Dylan) had the pleasure of talking to the ex CEO of SEGA of America, the legendary Tom Kalinske, an interview that I duly transcribed and which you can read at the link below. The podcast has since taken off and we thought that it would be good to share the audio with you all. I was extremely nervous but trust me, Tom's ability to tell a story (mostly centred around bringing life to Sonic and going toe-to-toe with Nintendo in their prime) carries the podcast and ensures a great listen (when the sound doesn't cut out - oops!)

Crazy Taxi - SEGA's Driving Classic
Saturday Apr 06, 2019
Saturday Apr 06, 2019
To say Crazy Taxi is an Arcade Attack favourite is a bit of an understatement. It wowed at the arcades, it wowed on home consoles, its legacy is felt in many other franchises to this day. Rob takes the reins for this one so get ready for lots of facts and lots of gushing from all of us (sorry in advance).

Knights of the Round - Capcom's Classic Scrolling Beat-Em Up
Saturday Mar 30, 2019
Saturday Mar 30, 2019
The often overlooked Knights of the Round is a game worthy of anyone's attention. Whilst it may look like a standard arcade scrolling beat em up it has more than a few hidden gems. Why was it overlooked? We'll let Adrian set the scene for this wonderfully Japanese take on British medieval times...

We've cheated slightly, these are of course all MS-DOS games as well but Dylan thinks that all three deserve a remake nevertheless. Why?
The case is different for each game: Beneath a Steel Sky was the critically acclaimed title with a sad epilogue; Universe did away with gravity and DreamWeb was pure bats##t crazy and mainly known for a show of pixellated genetalia.
The tales of all three are told but has Dylan done enough to convince you of their remake merit? Let us know.

Strong language warning! Gamasutra/Jesus Fabre had the number at around 250 but we've heard elsewhere that the legendary Barry Leitch has done over 400 (let that sink in) game soundtracks. He kindly gave up some of his free time to have this fascinating chat with our Adrian. We're not worthy!!!
